Pros

Welcome pack included prosecco; some nice people (but most of them have left)

Cons

Those interviewing me neglected to mention that the team lacked any established clients, or that it had been underperforming significantly for some time. Despite the lack of clients, I was set wholly unachievable targets with effect from my third month. There was also an expectation to record all non-chargeable time. IT systems were antiquated and the case management software was from the dark ages. Even the office chairs and monitors looked like they were from the 80s. In my first full month, the billing period was artificially extended. Then, 3 days before the end of my second full month, a firm-wide email made it clear that that the firm was desperately short of its break-even point. The Partner with oversight of my department was difficult to work with and seemed to have a problem with people of a certain gender. I heard accounts of fee earners being bullied by some of the Partners. At a marketing event, one partner could offer nothing but sarcasm and mockery of his own colleagues - in front of a prospect. Staff turnover was off the scale. I counted around 7 resignations in the few months I was there - and learned of about 4 more in the 2 or so months after I left. Unsurprisingly, morale overall was extremely poor. The firm is amongst the most dysfunctional I have ever seen. It has all the warning signs of a sinking ship.
