Pros

After 15+ years of government contracting, I've found that the smaller companies tend to treat their employees better, while the larger companies have more resources at their disposal. With Rolling Bay and its family of Alaska Native Companies, you get the best of both worlds. Rolling Bay and its sister companies are able to pool their resources to provide their employees with the benefits and opportunities of a much large company, while still maintaining the personal relationships of a small company.

Cons

There are no guarantees in government contracting. No matter how happy a government client is with a company and their employees, there's always a chance that you'll lose positions in any given year due to budget cuts, or you may lose the contract altogether in a re-compete year. Rolling Bay has a great track record, but some factors are simply out of a contractor's control.

Pros

Excellent leadership and professional development opportunities. They set you up for success. Flexible with hours as long as you complete your work.

Cons

There are some opportunities for advancement, but it's always risky in a contract situation.

Pros

PM didn’t interfere with the day-to-day operations at the customer’s site. PM only contacted site personnel when company policies changed or to celebrate accomplishments. Salary was low compared to other contractors on-site; however benefits were far superior. Employees had a lot of latitude in accomplishing tasks for the client site and interactions for some resulted in coveted positions with USG or in the financial sector.

Cons

As stated, of the five companies on-site, Rolling Bay paid less in annual salary. However no other companies had comparable benefits or bonus packages. Front office doesn’t care for employee business development. Recruiter had no clue what on-site personnel duties entailed nor the culture of client site. There is no chance of upward mobility within Rolling Bay or the holding company, Three Saints Bay.
