Pros
If you stay and learn for a year, you could potentially get hired by Luminex, who pays more. If you are liked by management, it might be great for you, but if you aren't, they will not acknowledge you. Usually a different meal or snack provided on Wednesdays, and they will provide vegetarian options if you ask. Science behind the work is very interesting, but the company doesn't take the time to teach employees what they do beyond production.
Cons
Dead end job for women and anyone else management doesn't like or interact with. There is obvious bias/favoritism, and many women- including some in management and head positions- see it as a Boys' Club. They have promoted newer/inexperienced males over qualified, seasoned females on more than one occasion, and many women there feel unheard and unappreciated. Much of management is unfriendly and wont engage or say hello to you in the hallway unless you're a favorite. I have also heard of and witnessed many instances where managers have said something inappropriate or insulting when employees negotiate pay, share ideas of laboratory process improvement, or simply call in sick, among other things. Speaking of pay, it is not great nor competitive with other laboratories in the area. The annual raise they gave us was 0-3% based on merit, and also appeared to be biased, as some hard/intelligent workers in the lab got some of the lowest raises. As stated above, the Science behind the work is interesting and important, but there is no effort in teaching employees about it beyond production. Seems more important to get numbers than it is to respect employees or have quality data.
