A Chance to use my degree - Part Time Lecturer Rutgers University Employee Review

Pros

There are plenty of reasons to work at Rutgers. One of the more prestigious University systems in the country, it manages to straddle being a state school with more of a feeling of an Ivy. And for me, it is conveniently located.

Cons

As a part time lecturer, you do not qualify for full time worker benefits, such as health care. My department loves my class, but only needs it once a year. So I'm forced to cobble together other teaching work elsewhere.

Pros

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Cons

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
