Pros

Benefits are great (paid time off and health care), stability, tuition remission (although tuition remission counts as your salary so you are taxed heavily), aren't expected to work 60 hour weeks

Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy, things move very slow, little room to advance, tuition remission counts as your salary so you are taxed heavily, a lot of politics

Pros

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Cons

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
