Pros
Sounds cliché, but this has been the best job I have ever had. Benefits are 100% covered by the company, nurse on site, incentives for a healthier lifestyle (earn gift cards), a walking trail on site, and the 401k match is unbelievable, But even more than that, my team and immediate boss really understand that training is the key to being successful. The onboarding / training process might be lengthy, but it set me up to thrive in my role.
Cons
The VP of SEW boasts online that SEW is a family company by giving out gifts at big life moments (i.e. baby blanket). When it comes to maternity and paternity leave, SEW gives the minimum and expects you to be grateful. The company follows the standard 12 week FML and 6-weeks/8-week STD, and pushes you to come back as soon as possible right after birth. The STD coverage is only 60% pay and cannot be increased. Any additional time post STD is un-paid. Paternity leave is only 3 business days! Even as an international company, USA employees are given the short end of the stick so SEW can meet their bottom line.
Vacation is lacking - only 2 weeks when hired, 3 weeks after 4 years, and 4 weeks after 10 years. No additional time off even after 15, 20 or even 35 years with the company. Company holidays are minimal, don't expect to get President's day or Good Friday off. My counter-parts in Germany and China boast about their 6+ weeks of vacation.
