The work we did was very interesting and it really did feel that we were doing good for the world. Health benefits were excellent.

There were a lot of coworkers who had earned at least one promotion each but been denied year after year. Salaries were barely above academic levels for lab staff, but senior management was making a million or more in total compensation, which seems outrageous for a company of only 75 people. No surprise they laid off nearly the entire lab.
