Toxic culture with high turnover and poor management - Project Manager SMRS Employee Review

Pros

Nice office in a good location. Some decent people worked there for a little while.

Cons

Poor culture. It's a challenge to see who can get in the earliest and stay the latest. They regularly make redundancies, but it's always the wrong people, of course. There's a conveyor belt of young talent brought in and paid a pittance until they burn out, while the senior management and directors have all been there for years and years, are paid a fortune, and (wouldn't you know it) do nothing except drink coffee and swan about from meeting to meeting. One director had been there for so long that they didn't want to pay her redundancy (either that or she knew too much!), so they just kept moving her from team to team because she was too toxic to stay put for too long. And when junior members of staff complained about her, they were the ones punished or 'managed out'.

Pros

Large breadth of clients and projects, the regular teams are great to work with too. There are a lot of social events and a lot of people who really know what they're doing.

Cons

Leadership is inconsistent in their management. Culture is often talked about as a service and a strong point of the business but SMRS in my experience doesn't walk the walk here. Some leaders will absolutely act in their own interests, fail to manage you at all and leave you with little to no clarity on your role. Talk happens behind your back rather than being a two way street, which is not the culture they show externally. They will also totally promote themselves while others are cut loose. For those starting out, you can absolutely learn a lot here and do some amazing work, however I wouldn't be surprised if you get thrown under the bus at the first opportunity too.
