Miserable, Traumatizing Experience - Analyst STEP Strategy Advisors Employee Review

Pros

I’m sure it’s better than prison...in Belarus or Russia.

Cons

CEO seemingly, gleefully insulted and exploited everyone, until each employee apparently no longer could bear it -- a painful process lasting days to weeks. And it’s a strange irony for a company purporting to be a consultancy of sorts, when really it seems to be a bleak case study in morale-crushing, counterproductive labor practices. No doubt the costliness of this kind of mismanagement probably contributes to below-market salaries. Of far more importance, however, is that I (and certainly coworkers) suffered terribly. Fortunately, like those before, one can leave. Best life decision.

Pros

Working at STEP kept me on my toes and really exposed me to the professional experience I had been seeking for so long. My time at STEP would not have been the same without the mentorship of both Gary and Sharona. Their years of experience across a multitude of industries coupled with the passion they have for their work allowed me to learn something new every day. This internship, along with all the hard skills, taught me discipline and a new level of professionalism.

Cons

This experience does push you to new limits, ones that will teach you essential lessons that are necessary for one’s growth in a corporate setting. This requires you to learn how to think on your feet, actively contribute and not be afraid of failure.

Pros

• Business environment that will constantly test your ability to think critically, pay attention to details, and deliver professional, high-quality client-ready documents. • Increase your business lexicon and comprehension level daily. • I learn a lot about business technology tools and industries daily – good if you like tech and I do! • I work on projects for impressive companies and enjoy a daily sense of responsibility for those projects. • I have direct access to executive level thinking to get feedback on quality of ideas and my work. • The culture here is that of a start up at times and it is very possible to be involved in the launch of a new company with partners that know the ins and outs of a successful business. • All of the interactions I have been privy to in working with Sharona confirm how well admired and appreciated she is by her clients and partners in the business world. • The company has a very broad network and Sharona is great communicator, so if you can dream of a project that is within the scope of the company’s expertise, you best believe that the chances of it becoming real are incredibly high. • Fantastic creativity – I have learned so much about presentation!

Cons

• Can be a high-pressure environment at times and is good for those who like energy, but probably not for those that like a slower pace and less bottom-line responsibility. • Deadline planning can improve. • Can require a high level of multi-tasking which may not suit a person that prefers single projects. • No middle-management, so you are expected to rise to the opportunity on your own.
