Pros

The library is full of mission oriented, service minded, community supporting individuals who care about creating spaces where everyone is welcome.

Cons

Since the departure of the HR Manager the department has been largely absent and the impact had been felt by all. The other con is that people here seem to think the library needs to fulfill all their life needs and make them personally happy. It's work. It's not the library's job to figure out your work life balance. It's sometimes exhausting to listen to all the whining when I don't see anyone stepping up to help.

Pros

Good pay. You will gain a lot of experience quickly because the workload never seems to stop. Branch staff are hardworking and care deeply about serving the community.

Cons

Leadership communication is extremely limited and can feel like sending messages into the void. Responses from leadership are rare drops, and staff rarely receive meaningful engagement from the director. Management tends to micromanage day-to-day tasks while avoiding larger systemic issues. Workloads steadily increase without corresponding staffing or structural support. Staff concerns about burnout and operational problems often receive polite acknowledgment, only to be immediately ghosted. Leadership focus is often on internal “pet projects” rather than improving core services or supporting frontline staff. Long-term sustainability for staff wellbeing is not taken seriously.
