Pros

There are some great people working at the company.

Cons

There’s an overwhelming amount of politics, and if you’re not in the sacred Harvard alumni circle, your opinion, skills, and experience are rendered meaningless, and you might as well give up on trying to steer the ship in the right direction. The leadership team is full of individuals who believe they’re superstars because of their education, but have never seen how an actual tech company functions and grows. If you're one of the CEO's friends, you can fail to produce anything—and even make matters worse—and still be allowed to pass the buck down the line until you’re simply moved to a different executive position to see if you’re less terrible there. There is essentially no job security or stability at this company; it all depends on who currently has the CEO's ear.

Pros

I have to give credit where it's due - people at this company are so kind, including the CEO, who went out of his way to form an authentic relationship with me. The product has promise, even if the market is growing more crowded day by day.

Cons

At this point, I just have to laugh at the stubborn, misplaced confidence of the leadership team, who continually hire wonderful, experienced people and then fire them or "eliminate" their roles because they think they know better. It's no wonder competitors appearing to be eating their lunch. Meanwhile, I can't count the number of false promises I was made that turned out to be nothing but a bait and switch. This includes both financial outcomes and career progression that the leaders are simply incapable of providing, despite every confidence that they are well-equipped to support experienced, ambitious people. Lol. When confronted, I was gaslit into thinking I wasn't getting (very normal) rewards that had been dangled in front of me since day one because I wasn't meeting their illusive criteria. Or even worse, met with a shrug and a "this is how the market is now." This is the only startup I've ever worked at where it's clear the founders and extended leadership team are in it for themselves. Again, it's laughable... but also it's a bummer, given the nice, talented people who end up here.
