Pros

Large portfolio of hotels with the potential for transfers and growth. Upper management is intelligent, helpful, and the layers of management help meaningfully support daily operations on the ground.

Cons

Culture varies widely by property and reality of available job growth is determined largely at the property level despite the larger portfolio. Lots of layers of management create a high level of bureaucracy that can make getting anything done a slow and frustrating process.

Pros

The people on-property are largely wonderful people and a joy to work with.

Cons

The Corporate office is brutally cut-throat and will work you as hard as you let them before discarding you at the first sign of faltering. I worked in the home office for about 9 months to rave reviews from peers and business partners. Over the summer, I took emergency leave to get my mother life-saving care, which was initially encouraged and supported by senior leadership. When my mother recovered, and I returned to work, I was fired for not getting the job done while I was gone. I mean, if you can’t do your job when your mom is dying, when can you do it, right? HR later confirmed to me that because I wasn’t on protected family leave at the time, I was still responsible for the work. The thing is, Sage was legally obligated to let me know my rights around Colorado’s FAMLI Act within 5 days of learning about leave that would qualify for protection (mine qualified). They never did, and I didn’t learn about the FAMLI Act until after I was fired. Later, the leader who initially supported my leave was also fired. I have an active complaint with the State for Colorado FAMLI Act violations.

We take feedback like this seriously, especially when it raises concerns related to leave, employment protections, and how associates are supported during challenging personal circumstances.
