Pros

-Get to work directly with the public and provide helpful resources -Interacting with families and children through Storytime, programs, and other events is very fulfilling - Lots of opportunity to be creative (if your manager allows it) -Your floor staff/co-workers are AMAZING people (management not so much sadly)

Cons

-Micromanaging and hand holding -Expected to do as told and not have different ways of doing things/opinions -If you have a backbone and are one to say something when you see something that is not right, be warned that you will be fired and/or written up shortly after; voices are not tolerated here -WAY underpaid -Raises are based on evaluations with managers instructed to never give a high score if possible so raises are not handed out; a friend has worked here for 10 yrs and has only seen ONE raise in TEN YEARS! -No room for growth. Unless you are buddy-buddy with someone in admin and/or are a suck up to management, you will not have opportunity to go anywhere higher. You are also not given the chance to move locations or positions easily. This institution is corrupted from the top down. The CEO, Wallace, has said, and I quote, "We all know there are those who do not agree with me. But we all know they won't be here much longer." Verbatim. This was stated at a full staff meeting. This mindset has trickled down to the branch managerial level and has created an ugly atmosphere across the board. This is heartbreaking considering how amazing of a resource the Library is to the community and the fact that this is a PUBLIC SERVICE JOB!! Highly disappointed and do not recommend for your future employment.
