Pros

The employee discount was the only good part of working at Sally’s.

Cons

My initial manager was great, but left and was replaced. My new manager cut everyone’s hours from 24-30 to 16 or less and hired her own friends and family to work the hours she took from us. Demanded I give her an entirely OPEN availability for ANY day or time to be guaranteed a measly 20 hours a week. Can’t survive on that and can’t have open availability to have a second job, what are you supposed to do? On top of that, chemicals were often stored incorrectly or haphazardly, we were often scheduled ALONW and told we were not allowed to lock the front doors to use the bathroom if the store was empty (HUGE safety risk in my opinion, our bathroom was in the back of the store BEHIND our stock room and it was impossible to hear the front door or bell from there). Demanded that we shove a terrible credit card down the throats of everyone who stepped through our doors. If we didn’t, and didn’t get a certain number of sign ups per month, we were told that our hours would be taken away. It was NOT a commission based position nor was it ever advertised as being such. We earned next to nothing for people getting the credit card, maybe a couple of dollars, and it had absolutely no benefit to a standard customer, and even for professionals to get the CosmoProf card was silly. To top it all off, their hourly wages are absolutely laughable, as are their “raises”. I was hired in 2020, right before the pandemic, at $10 an hour. My state does have a low minimum wage, federal minimum of $7.25. Sally’s in the area are now hiring at $13. They pay store managers about $16 an hour, which is ridiculous for the amount of responsibilities given. Again, I was often scheduled alone, so not only was I doing the customer service portion of the job, I was also doing all opening/closing and managerial duties on these days, including prepping bank deposits and making them at the bank. For $10 an hour. When it came time for reviews, promotions were absolutely out of the question no matter what. My hard earned “raise” was 24 cents an hour after a YEAR of service. I was never able to receive insurance or other benefits either because our DM directed managers to schedule accordingly so that all part-time employees would always be under the company’s requirements for benefits (part-time employees needed a year under their belt, and must have worked a certain amount of hours during that time to qualify for insurance, 401k and other benefits). DO NOT work for Sally Beauty.

Scheduling and the hours of operations is great for a work life balance.

The pay is very low for a lot of the knowledge and upselling they want you to do
