Pros

It's a job. PTO was generous.

Cons

Very bureaucratic. Not much investment in technology stack. MBA / Corporate finance types still rule the roost even as universities are shutting down MBA programs. Digital transformation has been stuck for years because of this. There was a lot of lip service about diversity, but islands exist that only hire specific races. H1-B program is highly likely being abused and possible that some of the teams that only hire from their home countries are guilty of the common practice of demanding a portion of the salary of subordinates be given to their managers or risk having your work permit yanked. Forget wasting your time trying to work with them if you're not an H1-B. Annual reviews require negotiation amongst managers to give out decent ratings for their team which are strictly rationed by HR. You could imagine how broken years of ratings are if the H1-B groups are gaming the system.

Pros

Of all the companies I have worked for, Santander has had the strongest training program. The training was comprehensive, well-structured, and especially valuable for employees who are new to the banking industry. Additionally, Santander's ONE software is by far the most intuitive and user friendly banking platform I have used, making it easy to learn and navigate while supporting efficient daily operations.

Cons

Like most retail banking roles, there is a strong sales component. With fewer customers visiting branches due to online banking and ATMs, much of the day is spent making outbound calls to existing clients, trying to set appointments, and push products and services. While I understand the importance of sales in the industry, I personally felt there was significant pressure to prioritize sales goals over relationship building and client service, which I was not comfortable with.
