Pros
The job itself is amazing. You get to be hands on in helping build steel columns and beams that form the foundation of big structures. It’s a great way to get your foot inside the door in learning the fabrication aspect of the Structural Industry.
Cons
The shop in Eloy May be the best and most productive shop in the company, but it also has a dark secret. The lead men and shop manager have no skill in being leaders. We are expected to work as if we have no lives outside of work and safety is not the priority. The only thing you are to them is a number and a way for them to get more tons out of the door. They are obsessed with bonus checks and how many tons go out the door. There is a lot of favoritism amongst the Spanish speaking workers and it seems that they don’t want you to succeed in growing within the company. I am not surprised by the turnover rate of workers. From my personal experience, I would get harassed all the time from the main lead man due to me not giving in to being “one of the guys”. I love the job itself, but things need to change as far as how things are being ran goes.
