Pros

Good exposure to retail, especially for new grads. Nice office complex and cafeteria. You will be exposed to several business units and work in a very dynamic environment. Broad SKU coaunt means you can get exposure to everything from softlines (clothing, shoes, accesories, etc.) to hardlines (appliances, tools, lawn and garden, automotive). You do get a lot of responsibilities quickly, partly due to high turnover rates. If you enjoy a seat of your pants environment and unstructured processes, SHC is for you. I also like the diversity at SHC (gender, race, religion, special needs.....you will see it all and I applaud SHC for having a workforce which is real and not just a bunch or 20-30-somethings.

Cons

Sears Holdings has too much voluntary and involuntary turn over. In the 1.5 years I have been there, my department has had 12 of teh original 18 positions changed/eliminated/restructured. It is a very reactive culture and true change is difficult to affect. For example, basic back end systems and software, both at corporate and store level, encumber Associates who are forced to do the best we or spend enormous work arounds. Also, since results have been so consistently poor, funding/investments for resources (people, systems, stores, etc.) are very limited. This tends to show up in attitudes at our stores for customer-facing Associates. Also, SHC is so large that it is difficult to get noticed and feel that the work you do influnces, in a meaningful way, company results.
