Pros

Company has a long history and a solid reputation. The community supports the opera and the arts in Seattle. New facilities and production models have potential to grow with the needs of a changing market. Donors and subscribers are hungry for good art.

Cons

The organization has gone thru major upheaval in the recent seasons and subscriptions and reviews show it. Departments are in shambles, management is scattered. Institutional knowledge is being thrown out with the trash each day. Relationships with community and labor organizations are being neglected and ignored. Compensation and benefits are decreasing or are stagnant. Staff attrition (both firings and departures) is increasing rapidly.

Pros

Professional environment with protections for workplace discrimination and harassment Passionate people on the music side with much to share and give to the other musicians Getting to enjoy performing and the craft of opera to share with the audiences

Cons

Lack of communication from top level to others amongst the company. Can feel like you don't matter at times Low pay in comparison to other cities with much lower cost of living. Late night rehearsals so hard to pair with a morning day job (this is standard in the industry though) It's only part time.
