Decent pay, but would recommend working elsewhere - Claims Representative Sedgwick Employee Review

Pros

Having never worked in insurance before, my position offered good starting pay that got better the longer I was there. The training was also quite good and I found that my team members were always willing to help me learn how to do something. I also cannot speak highly enough about the people I worked with in my immediate setting. They were all wonderful people and it was because of them that I worked at this company for as long as I did. Unfortunately, this result may vary depending on the people who work at the different Sedgwick office locations.

Cons

First and foremost, the work hours; they were miserable. On paper, it might say you work till 5, but in reality I found myself working far later than that. The reality is that while you may be able to leave at 5, whatever work is left over snowballs in to the next day, making the next day even harder. Repeat this process over several days and suddenly you find yourself working 10-12 hour days. Even the best time-managers fell victim to this, as upper management continued to request bigger caseloads on each Claim Representative. As a consequence, employee turnover was high, which resulted in added work for each remaining employee until the higher-ups deemed it necessary (if ever) to fill the vacant position (a process that could take up to 3 months). Speaking of upper management, don't expect much from them. They are primarily focused on monthly numbers and only rarely rewarded a job well done. Any small misstep though would result with several emails from upper management. After a while, this murders any incentive to do quality work, replaced instead with a drive to simply avoid upper management's attention. Right off the bat, you will receive several weeks of paid time off. This might sound awesome, but there's a catch. Given the nature of this job, work piles up dreadfully fast. And with everyone having a caseload that demands their full attention, don't expect people to watch your desk while you're away. So that one-week trip you're taking to rest and recharge? Have fun working nights and weekends for the next several weeks when you get back, as it's the only way you'll ever get caught up. Lastly, as Sedgwick is a third party provider for insurance claims, you might get paired up with a great parent company....or you might not. In my experience, I was paired with the later of the two. Out of respect, I will not say who, but their meddling in Sedgwick's work frequently prevented me from doing a good job. One month they would like us to process claims one way, the next month they'd want us to change the process to something different. Given the frequent changes, this negatively affected the quality of my work.

Pros

The benefits are okay I suppose but they'll deduct your PTO from your severance pay. It's basically a ripoff loan.

Cons

-Constant harassment and hounding from Team Leads. -Unrealistic expectations for case load productivity. Mind you, the maximum expected amount of diaries to be completed is 80+. You're expected to make and take calls while also juggling case notes, emails, and Teams messages that pull you away from your current task. And the workload is moved constantly, regardless of an employee is absent, tardy, or even still present despite being heavy across the board. But you're expected to finish it all "productively" within 8 hours. No overtime and minimal assistance. -Good audit scores don't matter. You could have 98% to 100% , leadership will burn you for missing a few notes or if you're behind on other people's work while also being behind on yours. They say they're understaffed but they refuse to hire more people unless it's your replacement. -You're practically working on a sinking ship.
