Pros

Lovely, talented people who are always happy to help, Collaboration between teams is usually pleasant. Middle management do try their best for you despite leadership pressures. Ok place to start if you have no experience or technical skills.

Cons

Toxic work environment caused by leadership and HR, Employees and middle management very rarely will be listened to. You will be under constant stress and scrutiny day in/day out trying to keep up with unrealistic KPI's that constantly are changing whilst also trying to manage a high workload that easily becomes unmanageable due to the high volume of work. Tendency for finger pointing when things go wrong. Worked for nearly 3 years, more than half of my time was on minimum wage. Easily found a near 50% wage rise when looking for other Application Support jobs on the market. Very little room for progression, after consistently exceeding my job roles expectations for years, no official promotion or pay rise was offered, despite being one of the top performing members of my team stats wise 2 years in a row. It's obvious the company has little to no money left to actually invest in the people who work tirelessly to keep this company afloat. Was threatened with termination of my employment 1 day after returning from life threatening sick leave by HR. The reason for this threat was "Regarding my absence" despite it being pre approved by HR themselves... They then gave me a miniscule pay rise after I threatened to leave a couple of months later in an attempt to keep me at the company, Many other examples of shady, toxic, borderline discriminatory behaviour from leadership and HR that don't involve me. Do not expect human empathy. We are all purely resources to them. Staff turnover is high for a reason. Its only now that I have moved on that I've realised how badly this place affected me and my team members mental health. This is not how a healthy, normal company is supposed to operate. My quality of life has drastically improved since leaving. If you already have worked in IT previously, there is no reason to work here as of July 2024. I honestly wish the best for everyone at SI and hope things improve soon.

Pros

The people were the best part of SI. Reactive workloads mean you're working on different items each day (but many recurring issues).

Cons

I held many positions in my time at SI, all of them suffered from a lack of definition and direction. Below market salaries, and internal position changes overlooked if the employee has key skills that are difficult to replace. High workloads to the helpdesk dismissed as 'a temporary rise' when the underlying issue was the product quality resulting in higher volume of tickets. Changing goalposts - already tight SLAs on the helpdesk were reduced further and blame placed on the employees for not meeting said deadlines without SI brining in additional or more experienced employees and no changes to escalation structures for a long period after the SLA changes. Negative feedback in annual employee surveys is not addressed or drilled into. HR appears to have a KPI for Glassdoor review scores - At the time of writing, July 2024, there is no application support engineer with 8 years experience working at SI, and if the 5* review from the non-existent employee changes or is removed, I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Exit interviews don't care to find out why you're leaving, only if you're willing to stay and settle for a wage match. If not, there's nothing done to find out what could be improved. Favouritism is ripe in the company; you might have an alright time if you're in Dev, but not any other department.

Pros

Salary and flexibility was really good. No other company has given me the flexibility like this company.

Cons

The career opportunities in my department were limited.
