Pros

There are very few truly ambitious companies in the Toronto tech scene but I believe Setter to be one of the few. They've created an environment for smart, caring and diligent people to succeed. The perks (good food, free drinks, snacks, cool office) are plenty but these are table stakes these days. Everyone has them. When you come to work you want to feel like you are part of a journey, that you help people and that you are at a company that could make a difference in the world. Setter has that in spades. If you care more about the business opportunity: The total addressable market is huge, the market is moving in our direction (this is 100% going to be how people manage their homes in the future), the best investors in the world are behind us and your colleagues are hard working and smart. If you want to challenge yourself to build something great while feeling like a family, come to Setter.

Cons

There are two main cons to working at Setter. One, we are ambitious and this can create stress. We have a massive opportunity and we owe it to ourselves to push hard. This doesn’t mean it is ridiculous but it certain requires extra effort. Two, we are growing quickly and this creates change. If you are uncomfortable with change then Setter and likely startups are not for you. It shouldn’t feel like you have it all figured out at this stage. Where’s the fun in that? That being said, the change is purposeful and smart. We have a business that works, we just have to get better at it every day… It will always requires tweaks.

Pros

1. Really dedicated, hardworking, capable people 2. Focus on culture and values 3. Lots of autonomy and opportunity for personal growth 4. Cool product / service - massive opportunity to disrupt an oldschool market

Cons

1. High paced, intense environment - not for everyone but I love working with a team that wants to win 2. We're a startup so we're figuring things out as we go. As a result, not a lot of structure in some of the things I used to take for granted in corporate (e.g., performance reviews, admin support)
