Pros
One will learn just how unethical a person can be. I can sincerely say that I have never encountered, let alone worked with anyone as unethical and exploitative as the President of the company. It truly was an eye-opener.
Cons
The President of the company will lead one to believe that SewerVUE is a thriving company working on cutting edge technology. The truth is far from it. I was hired to – amongst other responsibilities – do R&D work on his pipe inspection technologies, but learned after accepting his job offer that the technologies were bought from third-party manufacturers, and that SewerVUE does not do any in-house R&D. I was performing system checks on the equipment a few days into the job, and encountered some technical difficulties. The President told me to phone the supplier for technical assistance, but was told that SewerVUE was behind on payments and would not be helped until payments were settled. Unfortunately, the problem I encountered was not one that I could solve without knowing the schematics of the equipment – knowledge proprietary to said supplier. When I mentioned this to the President, he said, "I don't want to hear the problem, I want to hear the solution." I politely said the solution was to pay his suppliers and to maintain good business relationships with them, he said, "That is not the right solution. Think harder." A few weeks later, after much wrangling between the President and said supplier, I was able to fix the equipment and prepare for a field deployment. The project was to be done on the side of a highway, and required the company to file for a highway work permit. The President insisted that my colleagues and I mobilize to the job site without filing for the permit, since it would cost the company $100 and a waiting period of 10 days. Knowing that we would be at fault if anything untoward were to happen, we refused to mobilize, and insisted that we obtain the permit first. The President then told us that he had made a mistake in hiring us. Eventually we mobilized to the job site, and collected some data. During analysis, my colleagues and I discovered that the data was of poor quality, and was, for all intents and purposes, junk. When we brought it up to the President, he said once again, "I don't want to hear the problem, I want to hear the solution." I suggested that we mobilize once more to collect more data, to which he said, "Let's manually modify the graphics in CorelDraw. The client will never be able to tell." I realized then that the President was selfish and manipulative in all aspects of the business – hiring, purchasing, and selling. Not only was I hired for reasons entirely different than those stated in the job description, I was also forced to partake in unethical practices. If you ever find yourself in a SewerVUE interview, take note of how many employees there have worked for more than 6 months. There's a reason why so many employees leave so quickly. The President simply does not care about the safety, ethicality, and legality of his practices, and expects others to partake in his elaborate ruse.
