Pros
Most of the people you come across are a great bunch of guys and you have a really good laugh on your working day, lots of overtime has been made available to our deptfor whenever you want it. the shift pattern isnt too bad once you get used to it and can actually work out cheeper in terms of childcare.
Cons
The general attitude management have towards skilled workers is very bizarre, across site there are the same jobs in different departments working in the same conditions and carring out the same kind of work yet some of them are six thousand pounds per annum better off than others. we were told by our management that this would be delt with on a certain date and wed finally have pay parity, however when that date came around we were told that we were not going to have it and no explanation given from higher management. the current state of the companies finances are extremely worrying also, a few months ago we were told that as a company we were in insolvency a few months prior, and you dont have to look far across site to recognise large unnecessary expenditure. for example our department has had a contractor charging upwards of 30 pound per hour for the last year and a half now working alongside people such as myself for slightly over 13 pounds per hour. when we ask why we still need a contractor we hear that its for cover incase we have a cast and people are on holiday. yet we only actually cast steel about once a month if we're lucky. Only casting on average once a month also begs the question of how can this company survive if we are not making anything and wasting money on unnecessary things.
