Pros

Good people at lower parts of the org

Toxic culture where everyone is blaming each other for obstacles rather than solving problems all because the president has created a culture of fear of retribution

Pros

I genuinely enjoyed my time working at Shepherd University. The colleagues I had the pleasure of working with were exceptional, and the students truly made the experience rewarding. The campus is situated in a beautiful area, which adds to the overall positive environment. While the cost of living in the area is higher, the university itself offers a supportive community and meaningful opportunities.

Cons

One challenge is the compensation, as low pay can be difficult given the high cost of rent in the area. The surrounding community is somewhat of a sleeper community within the Washington D.C. metro area, with limited affordable housing options. Advancement opportunities can be limited after reaching a certain level, especially since expectations for promotion often require a terminal degree without clear pathways for additional compensation. Additionally, some middle to upper management practices can feel micromanaged, which may impact overall morale. The campus itself could benefit from aesthetic upgrades to enhance its environment. While infrastructure is gradually improving, the pace of progress sometimes lags behind current trends and needs.
