Pros

Benefits, 401 k with company match for all employees, Decent training, Opportunites to network with peers at National Sales Meeting (Managers and up).

Cons

Not the company I went to work for. Started out part time in college, then an assistant manager and store manager. Moved up to manager fairly quickly, my first two district managers cared about their employees and cared about them having a work/life balance. That all changed, war barely able to take all of my hard earned vacation time, store was consistently understaffed, and even when I was on vacation I was still tied to the store. I finally just stopped answering my phone. My last DM gave me grief for going on my maternity leave early because she wasn't ready for me to go out (she had known for 5 months), then wouldn't let me get the last week of vacation that I had no way to use paid out. While pregnant, I was at the store lifting paint and carpet alone, due to lack of staffing. I was run into the ground, missed so much outside of work because no one above me gave a crap about anything but numbers and micro-managing. Store hours were extended without bringing on more people, and my particular store was never busy during those hours.

Pros

A positive work environment. The best co-workers I have had so far in my career worked with me at Sherwin. I also worked under an amazing management team. There is a lot of room for career growth. I worked for Sherwin for about 3.5 years. I started as a contracted lab technician, then I was hired full time as an R&D Associate Chemist. I quickly worked my way up to R&D Chemist within a year of being hired full time. The department I worked in was very fast paced, however, I know there are many other groups that move at a much slower pace with longer timelines. This would make it much easier to manage the workload.

Cons

Working with marketing was challenging at times. We would regularly receive big requests a day before they needed something. This would pose a challenge when you had other priorities to attend to. The pay was average. I do think it could have been slightly higher for all of the job responsibilities given to the chemists in my group specifically. The workload was overwhelming at times.
