Pros

My time at Shinesty was full of pros. As my first job our of college, I could not have had a better opportunity to shine, grow, and be weird with the rest of the folks in the business. The culture was not only incredibly fun and exciting, but was extraordinarily hard-working. Everyone had a passion for the business and to helps others. With that being the case, a fantastic energy around continual improvement and constructive criticism was present, especially on my side of the business. Other pros included - Ensuring I had the resources needed to get the job done, from office items to flexible deadlines if overloaded - Flexibility to create a healthy work/life balance - Incredibly fun times to be had while traveling and/or at photoshoots - Mentorship from the executive team - Brand recognition makes for great brewery & ski resort conversation - The product truly rocks, and seeing customers use and enjoy the product is incredibly rewarding

Cons

- As comes with a fast-growing startup, things were a little disorganized at times. With the focus on continual improvement, this continued to get better year after year. - In line with an apparel business, the workload through the year can be pretty inconsistent when crunch-time comes for the holiday season. - Also in line with apparel, it's frankly not a sustainable industry. On top of that, Shinesty did not have the resources to deal with material waste in an environmentally conscious way.

Pros

I had a great experience working here. The team is incredible and the company is growing quickly, which makes it an exciting, fast-paced environment. I learned a ton during my time... the team was collaborative, creative, and genuinely fun to work with. One of the biggest highlights was the open line of communication. It was easy to have 1:1 conversations with leadership, including C-suite employees, and everyone was encouraged to pitch ideas regardless of their level. That kind of access and trust is rare and made the work feel impactful and collaborative.

Cons

-Fast-paced environment means you have to be comfortable wearing multiple hats -Best suited for people who thrive in a startup-style, evolving structure

Pros

I am very grateful for a handful of the colleagues I met.

Cons

I was genuinely excited to join this company after an extensive interview process (three multi-hour interviews and several assignments). However, it quickly became clear that the culture and leadership style didn’t align with what had been presented. By my third month, I was consistently requesting feedback, but my manager often didn’t reply to Slack messages or canceled our 1:1s. When I did receive feedback, it lacked clarity or actionable direction. It became clear that my boss / the founders had no idea what they wanted from me. I felt like they'd either given up on me, or stopped caring about what I did. The founders are not bad people. But, they often act like they’re trying to recreate a college frat environment, which at times made me uncomfortable, particularly as a woman. Leadership frequently referenced past performance metrics from a former male employee without considering structural or contextual differences. Even when I found success, it would never be the same as what they'd seen in the past. Although they spoke about “maturing the brand,” I found that goal wasn’t reflected in day-to-day decisions. The company’s public focus on culture and transparency doesn’t match the internal experience; few employees are actually in the office, and the humor or tone at the top often crossed professional lines.
