Decent work place, if you can deal with the Silos - Technical Lead Shutterfly Employee Review

Pros

Lots of equipment to learn. I have never worked in a place that has so much equipment on the floor until Shutterfly. There isn't a boring minute. Especially during peak season, you will be engaged from start to finish with servers crashing, printer malfunctions, desktop rebuilds, relocations of Machines, Installation of Software and troubleshooting.

Cons

Unity is lacking in so many areas. Team Spirit is weak. At times, I felt like I was on trial. There is a constant oversight looking for failures. You have to deal with (shadow managers), those wanting to be managers in your department, especially with those Administrators who have tenure over you. There is continuous backbiting with the attention of tearing down and tarnishing others versus lifting each other. A lot of this is hidden and even managers don't see it. This is corporate America. You will be tested. Develop thick skin and do everything by the written procedures and you will be just fine. (I have high regard for the IT Manager, he tries to promote teamwork. You will not find a better person. )

Pros

I work with diverse and supportive people. Teams and leaders demonstrate the will to respond to worker needs with kindness and respect. On the operational level, teams are highly flexible and adapt quickly to changes when provided proper support. Work-life balance is high priority for the people I interact with.

Cons

The company has difficulty holding on to talent in tech fields since a good chunk of the focus has to be allocated to art/design and production instead. CEOs come and go every few years, leading to instability. For some teams, the process remains overly complex and inefficient because of misalignments between leadership/engineering and ops team users. No formal humanist policy around AI & robotics yet.
