Pros

Sitters Studio has helped to supplement my income as I pursue my career in musical theatre. They offer appointments based on your schedule and you have the option to go off the roster for a few months at a time. Most of the families are very nice and have an interest in keeping art in their kids lives. Raises are offered by taking some simple online courses and development tests. I was able to raise my starting rate by $2 per hour within the first two weeks. Staff is understanding of artisits' schedules and career goals. They are pretty strict about the rules, but the rules seem fair to keep it all going.

Cons

The pay is on the lower side, but the flexibility makes up for it. Being able to come back from an out of town gig and work the next day is a huge bonus. Raises based on tests and reviews are offered if you want to put in a little more effort. This job does require good management skills to balance the scheduling and payment systems. After a few months it became routine and made more sense.

Pros

Benefits of setting availability schedule is a super plus,

Cons

Appointments often made within 24 or 48 hours notice. If you list yourself as "available" you HAVE to work or you'll get a demerit, and after 3 you're fired. Very strict policies regarding cancelling a "booking". You will run into some truly crazy New York parents. A friend of me had a baby gate thrown at her by a client. I personally had to take care of very sick children (then getting sick myself). Disclaimer: Though it's technically in their policy to tell you if the children are sick, but most parents forget to provide that information. 1099 contract - you're going to have to pay tax on whatever you make come tax season. $13 starting wage - a bit low considering the company's employment requirements and how much they make off of you (client pays) $27-$35 per hour). Get $0.50 raise for passing specific tests on written material, making roughly $15/hour after completing all tests.
