Pros
I liked that interns had freedom to run our own projects and choose fields to gain experience in. The company has a very hands-on, collaborative culture that is a great learning environment.
Cons
The company is very unstructured, most likely because it's still in its startup phase. However, I don't think that being a startup should be an excuse for all the miscommunication, lack of direction/instruction, and overall disorganization that I experienced during my internship. My supervisor did not seem to care about their interns and we received little to no recognition for our hard work. Throughout my internship, I felt like I was doing busywork rather than learning skills to further my career. The only time I felt like I was doing something useful is when I reached out to a different team to help with their projects. Also, management seemed to care too deeply, in my opinion, about participation in company activities/guest speaker sessions that are supposed to be optional. We were constantly pressured to attend these events, even if we did not feel like we would receive any value from them.
