Cons
When I joined Skillinabox, I was genuinely excited to work with a startup. I believed it would be a great learning opportunity and yes, I did learn a lot. But unfortunately, it came at a significant cost.
As an intern hired for graphic design, I ended up handling far more than my role — including sales, hiring, operations, social media management, and even cinematography. While I am always open to learning and taking ownership, the lack of structure, clarity, and support made it overwhelming rather than empowering.
The biggest challenge, however, was the work culture. Instead of constructive feedback, there were frequent personal remarks and demotivating comments. Being told things like “you don’t have any personality” or “I don’t think you do anything in a day” despite managing social media growth, contributing to YouTube growth to over 1M views, and handling LMS shoots — was deeply discouraging.
Startups require hustle, and I understand that. But growth should not come at the cost of respect and mental well-being. A healthy workplace is built on trust, communication, and professional boundaries.
I value the skills I developed there, but I hope the leadership reflects on how team members are treated. Interns and employees deserve guidance, respect, and recognition for their contributions.
