Pros

Administration at all levels (Executive Director, ES, MS and HS Principals) are extremely supportive of the teaching staff. Although they are all relatively new to their positions, they have the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate guidance to new and experienced staff. The classroom observation and feedback I received was appropriate to assure good teaching skills/methods and classroom management. I have been very pleased with the teaching supplies I have available to me. I love the Core Knowledge Sequence (classical education curriculum) and incorporate Colorado Academic Standards to assure compliance with CO Dept. of Education standards. Technology is not a priority, but is available and improving.

Cons

Salaries are slightly lower than other Douglas County schools, but it appears administration is doing everything possible to correct. We received a 3% increase for 2017-2018 (not a con).

Pros

The only benefit to working at SkyView Academy is summer and holiday vacations, which is typical to most teaching jobs.

Cons

Extremely dysfunctional work environment. People were fired because they asked for opportunities to advance. They were told that they were being let go because they were not thankful or happy with their current position. The leadership only recently started promoting from within; rumor is that it is because an employee threatened to sue. (The school has a reputation for lawsuits.) The Executive Director, Richard Barrett's, previous school failed. The elementary principal was let go from her previous position for poor job performance. The other school principals are inexperienced; they have never been in a position of school leadership prior to this year. Teachers are often called into meetings and threatened to be let go without reason. The school continues to decline academically. Working at SkyView would hurt any teacher's reputation.
