Pros

The veterans are wonderful.

Cons

Let me break it down: Expectation: Local consulting means less travel Reality: 4 hour commute to some remote suburb with no option to work from home. Expectation: Direct your career to what you want to do Reality: The Chicago market is already quite limited to healthcare and pharma clients. Slalom is not big enough to have the option to pick and choose projects within these industries - they staff people on any project they can sell. Expectation: The firm has a fun culture with lots of employee events. Reality: You can attend events here and there if you’re not tired from your commute or your client work eating up your life. Chances are you won’t even make it to the Chicago office. Don’t buy into the lip service. Question if this company is really taking you where you want to go, or if it’s just an illusion.

This is John Tobin. Thanks for your review, I'll forward to the Chicago team to review although I admit that sometimes based on where people live, commutes can be tough. Some of our clients will allow remote work and some will not and it sounds like this did not play out in your favor. If you have any other specific experiences you want to share with me, simply email me at johnt@slalom.com to set up a time to talk. Alternatively, if you’d like to share more feedback anonymously, please consider doing so via this survey: http://slalom.ws/anonsurvey. Thanks

Pros

•There is an impressive budget, especially for high-level events, ancillary experiences, client giveaways, and premium swag. Management does not hesitate to fund top-notch brand experiences when needed. •The company offers a highly competitive benefits and perks package that remains a strong selling point.

Cons

•The "fiercely human" core value does not match daily operations. Collaboration is routinely replaced by a self-service model of training videos and help articles. •These recurring shifts are designed to manufacture the appearance of fiscal stability for the benefit of external stakeholders and clients, while leaving core operational deficits unaddressed. •Organizational maturity is low. Teams operate in deep silos, the internal tech stack is outdated, and there is a distinct lack of adequate project and event management software.
