Pros
There were lots of talented, helpful, and supportive people at Slingshot. Slingshot's remote work structure and 'Flexible' PTO were great perks. Additionally, there was a lot of interesting work occurring, with many opportunities to learn the ins and outs of SDA. The laid back atmosphere was nice as well, and there was little stress (at least in my case) to get work done.
Cons
For most of 2022, Slingshot's direction seemed upward: They had acquired Numerica's Space Division, which was a big deal for everyone involved. The company was experiencing massive amounts of growth, to the point where it seemed a bit unreasonable. I thought little of this huge amount of growth, since upper management appeared thrilled and encouraged us that we would accomplish great things in the upcoming year. 2023 arrives and most things seem fine, at least from my point of view. In late spring, however, a round of layoffs occurred which did not affect me, but did impact around 15% of the workforce. Understandably, some of us were concerned, but I at least figured it was a one-time instance. Management reassured us that it wouldn't happen again. They also tried to spin it as positive. A bit later, we were told the board decided to oust our long-time CEO. This decision baffled me and many others, and I began to weigh my options elsewhere given this news. I'm glad I did that, since only a few months after the first round of layoffs, a second round occurred. I was affected, and was immediately cut off from my work and my coworkers. The way they conducted layoffs was problematic, ignoring the fact that layoffs in general are terrible. Some of my former coworkers didn't realize I was laid off until they tried to send me a message after I was gone, only to find I'd been let go. They hadn't been told this information by anyone. This evident lack of communication by the company left a bad taste in my mouth. I think the company itself was a good place to work in the time before the chaos in 2023. People there were/are very talented, smart, and hugely helpful, but decisions by management were clearly unwise. The constant positivity and assurances that every decision that happened was good got tiring and implausible very quickly. Overall, The idea behind Slingshot is great, but the way it is/was being carried out was not.
