Pros

It's so difficult to come up with something here. I'm going to go with Smithfield Foods is a leading pork producer in the US with a lot of potential and room for improvement. Oh, and also it's a job.

Cons

It's so bad that it's almost comical. They started letting people go each month since the last quarter of 2024. After the first few months, the CBO sat all of his employee's down and said, "calm down". Then they let hundreds of more people go and continue to do so each month. To some degree, it isn't just what they are doing but also how they are doing it. We get a lot of meetings "where leadership is just being transparent" without any actual transparency "there isn't anything that we can actually share". Never any explanation, planning information, or support. Makes me think that the fear mongering is intentional. Magically, Smithfield leadership decided to forgo the annual employee satisfaction survey this year resulting in tons of employees with increasingly pent up frustrations. However, they are still sending out surveys about our performance giving everyone the perfect opportunity to vent about everything and point it at us. I genuinely wonder if we are being set up to fail on purpose or if it's accidental. There's very little sense in the decisions that are being made. Smithfield leaders are creating processes with no path forward and also not making everyone (read: other leaders) follow the process and then are surprised when the processes aren't working. Also, we are not allowed to ask any questions about any of these issues. We are frequently told that we have no other option other than to just take it "The squeaky wheel is the next person on the chopping block". They have let several people go that have been with the business for a long time and were very good at their jobs. These people have always worked remotely but they are located in the VA area so now they are being forced to work on site. If they don't like it then they can leave, and if they leave, they have been replaced with other people working remotely (just not in the VA area). Make it make sense...
