Pros

I am a former ATC tech for the Industrial Services Department Do not apply for this job, it is not worth it. It looks on the surface, pretty cool: travel all over, fix a computer/IoT device, keep your travel points, etc But here's what they don't tell you: 1) Snap-on encourages micromanagement. This is not unique and while I used to be angry and think this was specifically my boss' issue alone, I compared notes with an account manager who was burning out too and it was worse on the sales side. It does not matter what department you work in: you have to contribute to progressive growth forever or you are not worthy to continue being employed 2) As an employee who does not report to the home office in Kenosha, WI, you are required to take out an extremely expensive auto liability insurance policy and pay for it. Snap-on of course has their preferred vendor and they are twice as expensive as everyone else. This is probably more okay if you are a salesman making commissions but as a technician with a fixed salary this is akin to paying taxes twice. 3) As a technician for the industrial services department, servicing ATC and autocrib products, you are required to be on-call one week a month minimum and you have to be logged into a call queue answering calls and emails. It was not always this way and the now-deceased admin of the ticketing system was fond of bullying other techs over his ability to "watch you work". Additionally, the two times that they had hired a person to answer the phones from Kenosha, these employees lasted 5 months and about two weeks. The second person quit to work for Microsoft. Yes, really. This policy gives you ZERO time to rest or care for yourself in an already stressful environment. The head of this department has also floated multiple times the idea of forcing a tech to fly to multiple locations in one week, which again does not help. The average age of the team is late 30's early 40's, so this is not good for anyone's health. They are making you two jobs instead of one, in a company that prints money off its name alone, it does not need to be this way. Period. If the Department head spent more time minding his business and less time dictating every little thing the techs at the bottom need to do and bragging about all the people dreads and face tattoos they rejected they might be able to hire enough people to handle the workload, but no. 4) You are required to travel Mondays and Fridays and are not paid extra for travel. You are limited to charging the company a total of 150 miles in any one direction for travel costs but only in a personal vehicle. This is not the norm for travel work. 5) Your technician's kit is not meant to be useful it is meant to be an advertisement. It had to be approved by marketing, it is 5000 dollars, and you are obligated to carry it with you everywhere. You won't, especially if you're in a mine or working at a railyard, but if an account or business manager holds a grudge or is a bit of a karen...they have the grounds to ding you for it.
