Good guys/Bad upper management - Lnstaller SolarCity Employee Review

Pros

Excellent starting point for entry level workers. Good place to learn with some great guys. l wouldn't say good but descent pay. Good benefits...that you can only enroll in once a year. The best part is the "4 10s" schedule of 4 days a week 10 hours a day and overtime if you want it. Customers are always happy to see you and welcoming. Sales people sometimes score you free Gatorade. Sweet! \m/

Cons

Tempers tend to run high because of the weather. Stockholders are now seemingly making micro management decisions on day-to-day operations. Stressed out managers that are good guys but super stressed out all the time. lt tends to stress you out too. Some of the grown men gossip like little girls. Not even exaggerating. Good luck getting anything besides the promise of a raise unless they somehow think you are slick. At that point they levy huge responsibility on you for about a half year or more until you finally get that coveted raise. At which point you reflect and see that the stress wasn't worth it.

Pros

Just to quantify my review a bit, I am within the top 10% of inside sales reps within our 12,000 person company. It is a great place to work and people doing well ARE able to make good money here. The executive team ALWAYS has a platform for reps to help make SolarCity a better place every quarter. They involve the top 20 reps each quarter in various ways to help their peers through an interactive group called Team Elite. Executives, VP's, Directors, and Managers are always willing to help and go to bat when there are issues with things that need to be fixed. The direction of the company is consistent and although the company is large, decision makers work as hard as possible to steer the big ship quickly when necessary.

Cons

Knee jerk reactions with decision making at a director level create issues from time to time. Culture has had its ups and downs due to HUGE growth last year and subsequent high attrition rates.
