Pros

- Constant stream of challenging technical problems: scale, algorithms, architecture, real-time analytics, fraud-detection, etc.. - Startup culture: Crucial features pop-up periodically, giving individual employees chances to do work that very tangibly "move the needle". - People: I've moved on to my next career challenge, but we still hold the occasional get-together over beer. Amazing crowd.

Cons

- Continuous exploration for Product-Market fit: Solidus Labs is truly a startup in the sense that it always has a portion of its workforce pushing to find its next killer feature. However, exploratory work sometimes gets scraped, and letting go of seemingly promising initiatives can sometimes require thick skin.

Pros

The people at Solidus are sharp and collaborative, and the work environment pushes you to think and solve real problems. The challenges are interesting—everything from blockchain and cryptography to trading, data, machine learning, and AI agents. You get exposure to a lot of different ideas, technologies, and markets. If you’re into startups, entrepreneurship, and solving tough problems, this is a place to seriously consider.

Cons

You need some interest in trading or compliance to really get into the work. It’s not something unique to Solidus—it’s just the space they’re in. You can pick it up if you’re curious and willing to learn, but if the subject doesn’t click for you, it might not feel like the right fit.

Pros

If you can do the job, it is yours. Taking the initiative gets noticed by the leadership and gets support from across the organization. Flexible in-office and work-from-home. It has a very open culture and a relatively flat organization. Product is improving, which makes my job easier and more exciting. Value to the customer is at the center of the culture. Everyone pushes for the same objective.

Cons

It can be a lot of new domains to learn initially if you do not have the background. Learning and support is available for the new hire. But teams are distributed so you do not get to meet in person as you would in an office environment. Have to be proactive to build relationships in the organization.
