Pros
By and large, SM hires amazing people that are enjoyable to work with. Our mission is motivating and it feels good to be contributing to something that helps people. There's also a good amount of flexibility. This is probably team and manager specific, but at least on my team (salaried, exempt), we are trusted to get our work done when its best for us and there's understanding when life happens. This trust and flexibility is priceless.
Cons
This is also probably team specific, but at least on my team, there is very little opportunity for growth, even though it was promised to me during the interview process. Promotions and meaningful raises seem to go to the favorites and for everyone else, there "isn't a business need"....but for those they want to promote, amazingly they were able to come up with one. It feels like working hard, accomplishing goals, and delivering on projects doesn't matter if you're not on the list. Very discouraging and a motivation KILLER. Also, SM has so many internal operational and scaling issues (namely billing). It feels like it's been many years of screaming for someone to pay attention and make the needed investments to fix it permanently, but every year there is something else that "takes priority" and we just keep getting deeper into our broken system that is not scalable (or at least accurately scalable) and our customers are getting sick of it.
