Sony releases interesting technology and products making it a cool place to work. Depending on the job/department there can be a reasonable work/life balance.
Cons
Engineering skills vary greatly between departments. A lot of politics abound, including working with Japan colleagues. Some departments are tough to maintain a good work/life balance. Tough to sell premium products in a down economy.
