Pros

Sound is an interesting company to work for as a nurse as you will learn a great deal about "adapting and overcoming". I was with the company for some time and saw many changes. In the beginning, I felt more valued as an employee and did feel there was a focus on the Mission, Vision and Values. Each facility has it's own team and therefore there will be vast differences from on site to the next. I happened to work at a pretty good hospital which made the CPN job more tolerable. The best thing about the RN role is the good hours and there is a little flexibility with scheduling. There is an outstanding network of other front line RNs across the company that offer insight and assistance to new CPNs and they do their best to support one another remotely. New nurses do have to reach out and ask for the help they need.

Cons

RNs are not valued unless they can absolutely prove they are making money for the company. They are not embraced by the company's leadership any longer and the nursing division is pretty much on it's own. This is a typical corporate job and the Mission, Vision and Values of Sound only seem to apply to clinicians. As a CPN, think of yourself more as business person, less as a healthcare provider and you won't be as disappointed. The executive team does not advocate for the nurses and seem clueless about the big picture. They take credit for the work of others and do not value employee development. There are no formal nursing policies or comprehensive training and it's very much sink or swim for most RNs. New CPNs need to be very resourceful and be able to work independently. Its a hard job to get the hang of and requires above average IT skills. Forget offering new ideas regarding the structure of the nursing program, you likely will not have a voice or it will take a year for the smallest change to take place. If you work here, get used to things being different from one region to the next...everything. Pay, rules of engagement, training, quality of leadership, working conditions....everything. Also, there are very few advancement opportunities and if an RN does move up, they ultimately move out because there is no "deep investment" in nurses as the company will advertise. Turnover is horrible due to a lack of company loyalty or support. The pay and PTO are okay but the health benefits are far too expensive for the RN salary.

Pros

work from home, smaller business, personable nurse manager

Cons

lack of training, then they blame you for not meeting training standards. For example only able to train odd hours that didnt work for me, then complained it took to long when i only trained 2 hours every other week. Of course it takes 2 months to train when only trained 1-2 hours every other week When I applied I said I had OB expierence but 30 weeks and under, then later complained I didnt know labor calls well enough. Most of calls were OB but it was advice for all areas and I KNOW triage and advice very well and would have been great assest to them Another MAJOR con is the pay. My other job paid 2.5 times more so of course they had priority when I trained, so if ya want to pay more, I would have trained any hours open first, but otherwise you are last on my list. Other call jobs pay the same and dont require you to be a RN, for example southwest airlines call agents etc . Anyway their loss
