Pros

- The ICs are the only reason this company functions. Talented, hardworking people doing their best despite leadership -The company does two kickoffs called Merge every year, which can be fun if you survive the "purge before Merge" when leadership conveniently does layoffs right before each big event

Cons

- Pay looks decent on paper, but there's absolutely ZERO work-life balance. In reality, most of that paycheck ends up going to therapy just to cope with the toxic environment - The CEO is the biggest liability. He changes direction on a whim, chases “likes” on social media instead of building a strategic business, publicly promises customers features that don’t exist (and never will), and has even said that everyone should be working nights and weekends; openly promoting a 9-9-6 grind culture. - Technical Success is especially toxic. Leadership bullies top performers, talks down to seasoned professionals, and fosters a culture of fear instead of trust - The executive team is inexperienced and a joke. Every board meeting feels like smoke and mirrors, with spin replacing reality - Managers are yes-people. Challenge the narrative or show real talent, and you’ll be pushed out - Strategy is basically AI hallucinations sold as vision. Top talent runs exit() as fast as they can

Pros

I'll start by saying Sourcegraph is not a fit for everyone. The people I've seen thrive here are self-starters who enjoy high-agency, scrappy environments and can work through ambiguity. - Truly some of the best people I've ever worked with. - Employees are encouraged to share feedback and run with new ideas and processes with close to no red tape. I love the impact and ownership every person gets. - It is extremely, extremely fast-paced, which I personally love. - Pay is very competitive. - Best benefits I've ever seen.

Cons

- Great benefits, but no 401k match. - As I mentioned above, the pace and shifting priorities makes it a place that's not for everyone. You probably won't enjoy the company if you prefer a ton of structure.

Pros

- Fantastic Trips - Generous Parental Leave - Office Budget - Always have everything you need to do your job It’s a good job with what I still believe to be incredible tech. The fact that this behemoth of a software works as reliably and smoothly as possible is a testament to quite a few generations of talented and smart individuals. It’s not until you step away from using it as a daily driver that you really realize it’s like a Ferrari, they only make a few every so often and the engineers that work on them care about every single bolt.

Cons

- A bit of a roller coaster - Strong personalities - No roadmap for career you’re going to have to make one The cons come from this being a business that has to make money. It’s always been. Running a business takes incredible acumen and at times shrewd choices. With a step backward I think there was a lot of missteps here with handling finances and the optimism that came with low interest rates. Most devs don’t realize how this thing even works let alone how or why it will improve their productivity.
