Pros
- There are no boring projects. There are no roles with little perceived responsibility. The self satisfaction of seeing your hardware in flight is tremendous. - SpaceX is a meritocracy, meaning anyone can weigh in on a problem and their input is equally valuable if it can be substantiated with good rationale. You are allowed to pursue projects or topics you are interested in, so long as you don't fall short on your current responsibilities, and managers are eager to help their direct reports pursue work that they will succeed at and find personally fulfilling. - Lots of opportunities to learn new skills, and an environment filled with engineers who are eager to help each other solve problems. Overall, I've found it to be a very positive environment for new engineers.
Cons
- The consequences of failure are significant and no engineering design comes out perfect--there is inherent stress involved in working on spacecraft.
