Pros

For Spartans (Consultants): Sparta can be a great opportunity for young professionals to kickstart a career in technology. If you are truly wanting to work in tech and have had difficulty finding a tech job elsewhere, Sparta CAN be a good way to do so. It’s a great way to receive paid (though a low salary) training and get introduced to some reputable client companies. My biggest recommendation for anyone joining is to look beyond the two years and where you can be AFTER Sparta. They really can set you up for a successful career, though many have a tough couple of years getting to that point. For internal employees: Good opportunity for very junior employees to gain experience in areas like sales and talent. (When I worked there), there was a fun culture, and I got on well with my colleagues. The internal people were the biggest selling point for me, though from what I hear, many of those people have since left/been let go. My biggest growth at Sparta was in learning to work with very limited, to no resources. It taught me to be adaptive and resilient through a forever changing landscape. Being a 'consultancy', there was constant change, and this experience was very valuable to me in many ways, though also frustrating at times. I had tremendous support from one Director, though other management members, and especially my boss, were unsupportive.

Cons

For Spartans (Consultants): If you’re joining as a consultant, be prepared to be completely open to working anywhere in the UK, with any client, and on any project. Regardless of what they tell you, you do not have a say if what you’ll be doing, so it’s best to just accept this before joining. There’s a lot of inconsistency in the experiences consultants have. If you get lucky and end up with one of the better-known clients, you’re likely to have a better experience than others you started with. Sparta has attempted to create a ‘community’ for their Spartans, though it felt very disjointed. You’ll likely keep in touch with some of the other Spartans you trained with, though many never really feel part of Sparta due to lack of engagement with the wider business. Depending on the Account Manager you have, you may become quite close with them, or you may speak to them 1-2 times a year (as mentioned in many other reviews). For internal employees: There’s limited growth for experienced hires. In Talent, you’ll have targets like a recruiter with a very poor commission structure. If you like working towards targets and a money driven, find a role as a recruiter elsewhere, and you’ll make double the £. Overall thoughts For consultants, you will learn a lot when you start. You will develop some great technical and business skills in training. Your experience on client projects can vary heavily, so it is a bit of a gamble to join. The company can be turbulent. There have been layoffs and course cancellations happening lately due to lack of business from clients. I’d honestly recommend steering clear until their business stabilises a bit. I found the benefits, growth opportunities, and culture to be well below what is expected of a tech firm. If you’re looking for a role where you can crack on with your day-to-day role and are not looking for real progression, this may be a good fit. If you’re looking for development opportunities, salary progression, and an innovative company, I wouldn’t say Sparta is the best option.

Hello and thank you for leaving a review. We appreciate you recognising how Sparta Global truly is a great place to kickstart a tech career and set people up for a future in tech that is creative, flexible and has longevity. You are referring to both internal roles and what it means to be a Spartan, so whilst it is not possible for you to have experienced both of these streams, we appreciate your feedback regarding the great colleagues you worked with, network and learning opportunities. However, we must address some of these comments. As a technology company, change is inevitable and our employees (as with other technology companies) do need to be prepared to be flexible and adapt to changing market conditions. It is not always easy, but it is something we love about working in technology. You are correct when you state that Spartans must be willing to commute to roles away from their place of residence. Should this be the case, our teams work hard to make travel distances very short and management. In unique cases where relocation might be necessary we support through the whole process and offer interest free loans for expenses. Please note: agreeing to relocation is a very clear term in our contract that all Spartans are talked through and must sign to join us. If you will not relocate - that's ok! But you cannot be a Spartan. All Spartans in our Academy have agreed they can and will if needed. We only work with client companies that share our commitment to being fair, equitable and inclusive employers that promise to support our Spartans in every way. However, we keep a close eye on things. Every Spartan has a dedicated Account Management, Engagement coordinator, HR and delivery team - all people who check in and can respond to any challenges Spartans may experience on site if they are informed. We are really proud of our Spartan community and alumni network too, but Spartans must engage to really benefit from it. We put on events (online and in person) and invite Spartans to come to the office very regularly. We offer so much to our Spartans, but as consultants they do need to engage themselves as our employees. In response to your comments around working in our Talent team - commission structure is based on experience and role seniority but is very fair.
