Pros

Patients, patient families, caring for truly amazing people, making wonderful friends in the process. Being able to make your own schedule, basically be your own boss and be home at night because of the flexible schedule.

Cons

It used to always be about the patients. It isn't anymore. Everything turned to Medicare and charting. Not Caregiving and Love like it should be. No room for growth. People who were knowledgeable in hospice and worked there for a long time were passed on for people who drove the positions into the ground, all because they talk smooth. I worked there when it was a small company (St. Jude) that was so small that the CEO knew my name, then it got so big I don't think he knew his own name, let alone any of the people working their tails off for him/them. They stopped loving their employees and stopped truly caring about the patient care. It was all about the hustle and bustle of things. Must be amazing to be a millionaire with all your minions below you, and let people tear them to pieces until they break and quit a job that they loved and gave everything to for almost 4 years.

Pros

Good leadership/management Good benefits Good work life balance Great coworkers and company environment Ability to make more money by picking up on call It’s easy to take time off Company phone Opportunity to qualify for company vehicle

Cons

Weekend on call. We have to be back up every 8-9 weeks Lack of organization No structure for support. Company hires no PRN nurses and is limited to 1 LPN for support. Extra visits are expected to be picked up by case managers who already have a full load. Required to do an occasional admission Very large territory. Occasionally have to drive over an hour for PRN visits or admissions
