- Incredibly low pay, note that room is not included in stipend
- No work/life balance; you live where you work and you are never not working
- If you have a good supervisor, your year won't be made worse. If you have a bad supervisor (incompetent, doesn't listen, doesn't care, avoids responsibility, etc.), there's nothing you can do to resist them.
- Low level of antagonism from residents
- Little choice about what hall you will be placed in. This means a great deal of variability in the number of nights for which you are on duty
- Small budget ($100, $120, $125 for the whole year) for running events for residents
