Pros

There is always food at the office, lots of team lunches. The individual contributors of the team are quite good and very skilled. Outside of the IT Team, Individuals do seemingly care about the product and take great pride in making the best they can.

Cons

Toxic Leadership: The IT Leadership creates an unhealthy and adversarial work environment, often using fear, micromanagement, and blame-shifting as management tools. Lack of Vision: There's no clear long-term IT strategy. Decisions are often reactive rather than proactive, creating confusion and inefficiency. Resistance to Change: Attempts to bring in modern tools, processes, or industry best practices are often met with fear or outright dismissal. Poor Risk Management: Risk is assessed based on “gut feelings,” rather than using structured frameworks (e.g., NIST, COBIT, etc). Stagnant Technology: Infrastructure is severely outdated, and there's little support or budget for modernization efforts. Modernization efforts are often described as " Hard sells" to executive management. Lack of Accountability: Issues are routinely swept under the rug or blamed on team members rather than addressed transparently and constructively. Ineffective Communication: Leadership frequently withholds important information or changes direction without notice, leading to confusion and rework. Low Morale: Due to the culture, many talented team members become disengaged or quietly begin looking for other opportunities. No Career Growth: Limited opportunities for professional development, training, or upward mobility. Promotions are rare and often politically motivated rather than merit-based. High Turnover: The revolving door of System administrators. there have been multiple people in a year, before me to leave—speaks volumes about internal dysfunction. Fear-Based Culture: Employees often feel the need to "keep their heads down" to avoid being targeted. Open feedback is discouraged or penalized. Overemphasis on Optics: IT Leadership prioritizes how things look over how things actually function—“checking boxes” is more important than real progress.
