Pros

Fun and welcoming coworkers. Some really great people work here. Most of them are passionate about making a difference and care about the charities that they work with. They seem to really care about employee engagement. Lots of events.

Cons

At times obvious favouritism. Some rigid and dated tech policies. For some reason, staff committee budgets were all shared and ultimately often eaten up by the Christmas party. In some cases, lower-level staff had to "manage up" because their managers didn't action tasks unless directly asked or reminded. There have been instances where projects didn't move forward while lower-level staff were away. Isn't it the managers' responsibility to ensure projects proceed? There were lots of instances of unchecked unconscious bias/microaggressions, ableism, and expectations of emotional labour from marginalized people -- but maybe it's better now?

Pros

Great people, fun team building activities, central location, decent vacation time. Probably a good place to work if you manage to get a director role but not great for junior or mid-level employees.

Cons

Low pay that isn't competitive in the non-profit or for-profit sector, long hours (heavy workload), little opportunity for title growth but still expected to take on responsibilities above pay grade, negativity in regards to people moving on to new opportunities, inconsistent policies around promotions, favouritism, lacking in diversity, culture of distrust and paranoia about workers' intentions and/or potential to be a "flight risk" (many junior staffers were told not to take lunches together anymore because it made senior management uncomfortable), dishonesty about annual bonus amount with new hires, ableist attitude about employees using sick time (not rewarding strong employees simply because of amount of sick time used), arrogant attitude that keeps them from leveling up as an agency and employer.

Pros

Good work-life balance, upper brass are experts in the industry, easy to reach location.

Cons

The management is extremely cliquish. If you aren't a person who kisses up to upper management, you are an afterthought. There is next to no diversity in their workplace, and management has a habit of virtue signaling to make it appear so. You will be denied opportunity, as well as support if you are a junior employee. Do not try to work here if you are a person of colour, it is very clear that leadership is out of touch, and you will be denied resources as a person of colour that your white co-workers receive - it will set you up to fail if you are not brown-nosing. Also, there are no growth paths - the set-up of the agency and their work guarantees that you will remain junior for years, and you will be looked down upon severely if you hint at not wanting to be there long-term. Also, the CEO is a creep, and brazenly makes racially insensitive remarks when he can. Be aware, and stay away.
