Pros

The only reason I liked working at Subway was because of my regular customers. My boss did give me the days I requested off but I hardly requested off within a year of working there.

Cons

Where do I start with the cons? Let's start from the beginning. This review applies to the Subway located at 3669 Hulmeville Road in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. I knew friends who worked for Subway and most of them were unhappy with their job, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the cons apply to many other franchises. Anyway, when I first started my boss made me pay $30 for the uniform which I have never heard of any establishment doing. My boss's greediness caused a lot of problems. For example, we had a tip jar in front of the register and HER policy for MY tips was to SPLIT THEM at the end of TWO WEEKS! By the time we got our paychecks there would only be about $10 from the tips at the end of TWO WEEKS. The policy should have been to split the tips at the end of the shift rather than put half of the money in her pocket. Here is another example of her greediness: We received new items on the menu and she decided to explain to me how to ring it in over the phone (I should add that even in person she is terrible at explaining things and gets mad if you don't understand even though she tells you that she's there to help and don't be afraid to ask). So, after attempting to explain it to me over the phone I finally think I understand what she's saying and she has me explain to her what she just said, and she thinks I understand, too. Later on I'm ringing in a customer's order and I make a mistake due to her lack of adequate training. She calls me after the customer left and tells me I made a mistake and I have to pay for it!! It cost her only about a little over a dollar and she owns two stores, has enough money to pay for a nice house in the area and to pay for her kids to go to karate class (my brother used to take karate and it is not cheap). I am an 18 year old college student getting paid next to s**t mind you and she wants to make me pay for something that happened because she didn't want to put in the effort to train me in person. This is not the first time she has done something like this to an employee. I could provide you with even more examples of how cheap and greedy she was but the list would go on forever. So, I will continue with the fact that she refused to put more than one person per shift. I understand that it was slow and I can understand putting one person per shift once in a while but every time I worked, unless I was training someone, I was ALWAYS alone in the store. She would always say call her if I need any help and the only two times I called her, she couldn't come in. Then, after several of my co workers quit, she waited months before hiring anyone new (that left us with only me, one of my co workers, and my boss) until she knew I was looking for a new job. She depended on me but if any one of her employees needed any of her help, needed to call out sick or have her cover their shift all hell would break loose. I have so many more examples of how terrible it was to work there but I'll end it with one last thing. I got one raise within about a year of working there, the second raise was after she found out I was looking for another job and then once I finally put in my two weeks she now wanted to pay me what I deserved after working there for almost two years. In summary: Do not work for Subway! Most of their store owners are cheap, selfish, and don't truly care about their employees or customers.

Pros

Very flexible scheduling, especially if your manager is willing to work around all their employees. You usually get a 50% discount that you can use once a day too.

Cons

Direct district management at this location does not know how to manage people. He will not really do anything to help or assist until his supervisors look into his stores and what he does. He will shift blame onto any general manager he can, and if any district manager decides you are doing your job incorrectly or you need to adjust what you are doing, there will be little to no support in helping you become a better employee. It really can become a "popularity contest" when you work in store management. If you are a regular employee or shift lead, you won't really have any direct contact with district management.
