Pros
Role: Web Designer
Responsibilities: Maintain and improve the company’s website using Wix Studio and Velo.
Requirements: 200-hours, minimum 10-hours per week. Daily: check-in, check-out, log hours. Weekly: team meetings (or watch recording and send responses/updates in team chat).
Projects: Header. Footer. Landing pages. Forms. Call-to-action sections. Member badges. Member profile. Analytics. Style guide.
During my time with Super Purposes, I had the opportunity to contribute directly to building and maintaining the company’s website using Wix Studio and Velo. I became highly proficient with the Wix platform, improved my ability to manage multiple projects, and gained hands-on experience implementing best practices for SEO, accessibility, and responsive design. The 10-hour weekly commitment was flexible and manageable, and deadlines were clearly communicated and achievable.
One of the highlights of my experience was collaborating with a passionate team of web designers, content writers, digital video specialists, graphic designers, and UX designers. The remote setup was well-structured, with weekly meetings that kept everyone aligned and motivated. I also appreciated that teams worked together to develop the company’s internal governance through a shared style guide, which helped promote consistency across teams.
Cons
Although we worked mainly on Wix, I wish I had more opportunities to work directly with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/Velo in project assignments, as well as the addition of a standardized process for auditing site pages. However, my team lead did make an effort to incorporate code and github collaboration during a couple office hours which was great!
Overall, the experience was a 10 out of 10. I hit both of my top goals (collaborate in a team setting and practice coding). I highly recommend this opportunity, whether you’re a college student looking for real-world experience, or a homeschooling stay-at-home dad looking to transition back into the workforce.
