Pros
You learn a lot and get to design software that genuinely makes a difference to people's lives. Every day is different and brings fresh and interesting challenges. You can always argue your case. You are encouraged to speak out about what you see as a poor choice or decision rather than just following. You get responsibility fast. You can make real changes and have a real impact very early on. Very good pay.
Cons
It's hard work. There are out of hours requirements - although these are distributed as fairly as possible and really aren't that frequent. It can be daunting - because your work really does matter, getting it right is very important. There's no denying that that's a little scary.
